Our Commitment to Privacy
Socii is built with privacy at its core. Your conversations, posts, and messages are end-to-end encrypted, meaning only you and your intended recipients can read them. We cannot access your content even if we wanted to.
Data We Collect
Account Information
Email address and display name for account identification and login.
Encrypted Content
Your posts, messages, and responses are stored in encrypted form. We store the ciphertext but cannot decrypt it without your private key, which never leaves your device.
Connection Data
Information about your connections with other users (who you're connected to, connection dates) to enable sharing content with friends.
Usage Metadata
Basic usage data like timestamps and word counts to provide features like reading time estimates. This metadata does not include message content.
Data We Don't Collect
- Your password (we only store a derived hash)
- Your private encryption key (it stays on your device)
- Decrypted content of your posts or messages
- Tracking cookies or third-party analytics
- Your location or device information beyond what's necessary for security
How We Protect Your Data
End-to-End Encryption
All user content is encrypted using XChaCha20-Poly1305 before leaving your device. Keys are exchanged using X25519 (Curve25519) for perfect forward secrecy.
Secure Key Derivation
Your master key is derived from your password using Argon2id, a memory-hard algorithm that resists brute-force attacks.
Zero-Knowledge Architecture
Our servers never see your plaintext content. Even if our database were compromised, your content would remain encrypted and unreadable.
Data Retention
Your data is retained as long as you have an active account. When you delete your account, all your data (including encrypted content and keys) is permanently deleted from our servers within 30 days.
Your Rights
- Access: You can view and export your data at any time
- Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data
- Portability: Your data is yours; you can export it in standard formats
- Correction: You can update your profile information at any time
